About ASF

African swine fever (ASF) is a viral disease that affects both domestic and wild pig species. ASF is contagious and has a high mortality rate, therefore it can have an enormous impact on pig production. The virus does not affect humans; however, its transmission is strongly linked to human activity.

Reporting on African swine fever and wild pigs in Asia and the Pacific

A report recommended by the Standing Group of Experts on African Swine Fever in Asia and the Pacific reviews the current knowledge of the ecology, distribution, and role in swine disease epidemiology of wild pigs in the region. The report also makes recommendations on ways to manage populations of wild pigs, their interface with domestic pigs and other actions that will contribute to the prevention and control of ASF in Asia and the Pacific.
